New Year’s Tarot Spread: A look into 2025

New Year’s Tarot Spread: A look into 2025

As we end a tumultuous year, we aim to begin anew with hope and healing. As this coming year is a 9 in numerology, it is a year of ending cycles. That journey can be difficult, but if we put in the work, it will lead to a beautiful new beginning.

Using The Magical Nordic Tarot by Jayne Wallace, let's take a moment to investigate what this year’s energies may hold for us.

Challenge: The Tower

Keyword: Foundation

Our collective tower is falling. Will we be the ones to leap without looking or to strategically jump? We’re discovering that our systems aren't working for us anymore and we are no longer content to be beholden to the status quo. This is a time where we need to accept the challenge to knock down what is not working for us and be willing to put in the effort to rebuild, starting with a solid, sturdy foundation.

January: Knight of Cups

Keyword: Dreamer

The Knight of Cups is someone who is a bit of an idealist. He brings in hope for a happy ending and tends to lead with his heart over his head. He has the ability to come up with creative solutions to problems and can lend a childlike joy to our environment. The caution here is to not get too swept up in emotion. There are a lot of big feelings floating out in the ether right now, and lending too much energy to one side or the other can tip the scales out of balance. While listening to our hearts and intuition is integral, we must make sure it aligns with our heads and reason.

February: Two of Wands

Keyword: Unity

A bit of a pause is called for with the Two of Wands. This is a time to survey the environment around you before deciding how best to proceed. Sometimes, the wisest action is to take none. Rather than acting rashly, gathering information is essential to making an informed decision on how we must move forward for the greater good. When we are faced with decisions and dissension, how do we regain harmony?

March: Ten of Wands

Keyword: Responsibility

The burden of responsibility can be heavy to bear; the Ten of Wands offers hope. After having to carry a heavy load for so long, we finally have the end in sight. We will soon be able to put our burdens down and reap the rewards of our hard-earned harvest. There is still a bit of a journey ahead, but we must not lose sight of our end goal. We must also remember the hard lessons we have learned along the way, as they will pave the way for a smoother road ahead. We cannot let our burdens become too heavy and we must take care to not accept the burdens of others as our own along the way. Others must learn their own lessons in their own time.

April: Temperance

Keyword: Harmony

Harkening back to the Ten of Wands in March, Temperance asks us to right the imbalanced scales caused by carrying too heavy a load. When in this state, we must also be wary of those who would seek to take advantage of us while we are already feeling the pressure of taking on too much. This is the time to take a step back and reinforce healthy boundaries, in whatever way works for us. Keep in mind, when standing up for oneself, there is often pushback by those who would rather we keep to the status quo as it benefits them the most.

May: Six of Wands

Keyword: Success

The Six of Wands is a card of hard-earned victory. Our celebration right now is a culmination of all the toil and labor that we have endured for quite some time. As always, when one person or group is being lauded, there is often a person/group in the background that is envious of the victor's success. Do not let seeds of dissent cloud our wins. We have earned the right to be proud of what we have accomplished.

June: Ten of Pentacles

Keyword: Contentment

While we should never become complacent, the Ten of Pentacles offers us a short reprieve. We can take some time to rest and celebrate all that we have accomplished here. The work is never done, but we have worked hard and come far from where we started. Enjoy the moment and know that any rewards have been justly earned.

July: The Lovers

Keyword: Passion

The Lovers following the Ten of Pentacles suggests that it is time to wade back into the fray and work on building healthy, fruitful partnerships with those who offer different perspectives. To take a holistic approach in life, we must look at issues from all sides, with open hearts and minds, before deciding how to proceed. To throw an agricultural example into the mix, did you know that bananas are produced using monoculture? The current variety of banana is now succumbing to the same fungal disease that killed off the previous variety of banana in the 1950s and scientists are scrambling to save it. Is having one variety that can easily be overwhelmed by disease a wise practice. Whereas a fruit like apples or tomatoes with thousands of different varieties are not in danger of being wiped out by one single factor. It is a good lesson to keep in mind when considering the opinions of those we do not agree with. Having those differing opinions is like having 10,000+ varieties of tomato. Not all of them are fruitful, with some even being more prone to disease. But as a whole, the species is stronger because of its variety.

August: Three of Pentacles

Keyword: Recognition

The Three of Pentacles further illuminates the need for teamwork. In the traditional card, there are three individuals each lending their strong suit to work together in building an architectural masterpiece. Everyone has their role to play in order to make the most sound structure.

September: Page of Pentacles

Keyword: New Experiences

New opportunities for growth arrive with the Page of Pentacles. This is a prime time to reinvent and evolve ourselves from past versions. We must not be afraid to think outside the box and to utilize the experiences and knowledge of those around us as we forge ahead.

October: Judgment

Keyword: Forgiveness

Judgment brings in a time of healing from past hurts as well as an opportunity for rebirth. Old wounds may be opened at this time, but take a step back and reflect on past lessons before moving forward. We must trust in our own judgment and let it steer us in the direction toward our highest good.

November: The Chariot

Keyword: Movement

At this point in the cycle, just grab the reins and hold on for the ride. The Chariot asks us to trust that the steps that we have taken thus far and the path that the Universe has set out for us will guide us directly toward the pinnacle. We may not always see the way forward, but we are being divinely guided to our destiny. We must not take this as an opportunity to rest on our laurels though. We must continue to work with the energies at play in order to achieve our end goals.

December: The World

Keyword: Motivation

Through all of the hard work and dedication we've shown over the past year (plus), we are finding cause to celebrate a major victory. What this win is is anyone’s guess, but it is well-earned and it is definitely time to rejoice! Keep in mind that the ending of one cycle ushers in the beginning of a new cycle. We can hope that the next cycle continues to expand on the lessons learned this past year and beyond and helps to usher us into a new age.

Card of the Year: The High Priestess

Keyword: Empowerment

Use the energy of The High Priestess this year to aid in the healing of the body, the soul, and the mind, We  must ensure that we are attuned with our intuition and it is a most powerful time to expand our own spirituality and deepen our connections to our higher selves.

To sum up the reading for 2025, we see a lot of change and advancement. We are often challenged so that we may grow and find fulfillment and pride in the journey to get where we are. Though this year may be difficult, after the traumatic events of the past few years, this is a year of healing and of closing out of old cycles. With half the cards being Major Arcana, there is no hiding how big some of the energies surrounding the year are. It is a time of significant change. And with no Swords and only one Cup in the reading, this indicates that we must really rely on our intuition in how to best approach difficult situations. Steer clear of overly emotional confrontations, but at the same time, do not be afraid to have difficult conversations.

From our hearts, we hope that you have a blessed and happy New Year and we cannot wait to see what the journey holds for all of us!

Love,
C&D
